Item metadata

Item metadata primarily consists of the following:
  • An item number which, with the item version, forms the item's prime identifier,
  • Descriptive attributes, e.g. the description of the item and classification,
  • Control attributes, e.g. whether the item is classified as a configuration item,
  • Item component references,
  • Item cross references,
  • Item links.

When an item is approved, the above metadata cannot be changed unless the item is declared as Under Change through defined configuration control procedures.

Secondary item metadata consists of:
  • Item responsibilities, e.g. designer, approver, etc.
  • Item location.
